How will YOU be following the World Cup?
(Preview)
From the TV in your living room, a TV in a pub, on the radio? Will it be text-based, with witty comments from the Guardian "team", or have you found a sketchy torrent operating out of Bangkok?

Commentators, pundits, writers you love and hate

I've been reminded to start this thread by the oleaginous presence of Mark Nicholas in the commentary box. Is there a more annoying dip****? He sounds like a Premiership commentator, all portentous "I'll tell you what" Hampshire man yacht pub bollocks. I like Atherton, Holding, David L...

Catchy titles for a book on the Slovenian dual.
(Preview)
I've got this friend who's producing a book on one of the notable grammatical features of the Slovene language - the dual number. For those of you unaware of this (you've obviously not spent time in Slovenia where it is mentioned to foreigners twice a day), it is simply that as well as the familiar singu...

Will we see a record score at the World cup?
(Preview)
The Chappell brothers Ian and Greg (amongst others) have raised the possibilty of a score of 500 being reached during the world cup. Small grounds, strong teams vs inexperienced "minnows" could lead to some very one-sided games, but does anyone think we'll see the current record of...

The Next Associates

I think it's brilliant to see Scotland, Canada, Ireland, Bermuda, Netherlands, etc in the World Cup. When it was just 12 teams, it was hard to call it a World Cup. It can only help develop the game. Who do you think the next Associates coming through will be? Denmark would have made the 1979 World Cu...

Reasons why the Cricket World Cup is better than the Football World Cup
