I always thought Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction was a better band name than band. (though Prime Mover rocked in a kind of cartoon heavy metal way).
B Bumble & The Stingers has always amused me. Also Martha & The Muffins, if only for the (unintended?) connotation.
But for sheer feelgood value, has to be Jimmy James & The Vagabonds. Nothing like "I'll Go Where Your Music Takes Me" to raise the mood on a dreary evening.

Zodiac MW & the Love Reaction is a great name.
"? and the Mysterons" has to be way, way up there.

Snap!
was just checking the spelling of Mysterons when you beat me to it. "96 tears" eh? What a tune!
I quite like Billy Bragg when he had a backing band so he was...
Originally formed as New Zealand, after waiting a long time for success they became known internationally as the Kiwis, and had a couple of hits (mainly in the head). Hadlee strong performances made him a natural leader so the top billing became inevitable to get a few more punters in. Allegedly the group's name comes from a comment by Graham Gooch.

in the hotly contested funk and soul category, Lee Fields and the Devil's Personal Band. In the less crowded apartment wrestling rock n roll section, Lightning Beatman and the Never Heard of 'Ems
