What are your toughts on this? I'm not quite sure how I feel about it. But my initial reaction is positive.. It will make the game tougher for the bating side, perhaps forcing more caution into bating. Maybe even lifting the imporatnce of spin bowling once more, on account of more LBWs?
Is there another game in the world where a player can question the decision of an umpire or referee ??
It really is terrible, and undermines the authority of the umpires no end, seems to be driven by gambling interests I expect, as in the past teams have gone with the flow knowing that everyone gets their share of dodgy decisions.
Do what you like with 20/20, Micky Mouse or any other pyjama version of the game but this is test cricket ffs !!!
Does the fact that Dilshan scored a century after being given out but succesfully arguing against the decision devalue his innings in any way? I think it does. The fact that there were about 5 decisions which successfully overturned the original calls from the umpires isn't going to make anyone over-confident about their powers of judgement.
Still I wish we had the bloody thing here. I always stick up for the umpires' right to make a mistake, but the standard in the Austrian league this year has been terrifyingly poor.
I agree with our trainee brewer (or you fully qualified now?).
Test cricket has been the format that they've tried to keep as pure as possible to the historical format of the game and as such should keep the umpiring unchanged. Although, having said that, Hawk Eye is such an amazing piece of technology I can see the point of view of its advocators.
I totally agree that with T20, it's the precise format that would benefit from such referals, adding to the tension and festival atmosphere of the game. Not to say that test cricket doesn't posses either quality, it just posseses better qualities
officially inudcted into the American Brewer's Guild my friend (the details of the induction I will keep a secret) but let's just say it hurt me more than it hurt the goat.
