Was started today. Borut tells me that Maribor had 11 players, Meica 8 (including some very promising new talent for both clubs) Maribor won a 30 over challenge and successfully chased down a total of 92 ish in a 15 over match. Photos and scorecards should be availble tomorrow according to Borut.

Ljubljana CC are overjoyed that cricket has started this year in Slovenia with Zero input from Ljubljana. A good omen for the reat of the year, one hopes.

Feel free to post on the game if you were there. This is a forum for all Slovenian cricket, not only Ljubljana CC related news.

I am going through some fairly exhaustive preseason training right now. Need to take regular nutritional breaks. But blimey I'm up for a game or ten this summer. I'm hoping they'll be in LJ, or even Velden/Vienna, as the thought of going a year without visiting my beloved Austria for some Memorabilienschnapps is too much to bear. So I might well be looking for a scheme that allows me to spend a chunk of the summer in Ljubljana. I want to use that net.

Couple of questions: is it too late to get a team into the Velden Sixes, as I think they're looking, and were Slovenia invited to the Euro Twenty20s?

Memorabilienschnapps biggrin the drink you have after you've finished off your Nazischnitzels.

We've been invited to a few 20/20 things (one in the Czech republic) but we're still waiting for our league commitments before we accept. There's a big chance of another match against Hungary (over there) and Luxembourg fancy hosting us for a friendly as well.

Should have the full fixture list up this week. Stay tuned.

Well, I was expressing my hunger for immediate competitive cricket, but I spoke too soon. Just broken me foot and ankle. And I was having such a great week...

Yeah. Last minute of the game of course. Sheareresque. Six-week lay-off. Turned it over and heard three nasty cracks on the way down...

I'm told there were 12 who turned up for training today including one or 2 new secret weapons against the opposition. Make sure you get your availabilty in for the upcoming games as places in the team are filling up fast.

Rumours have also arrived at LjCC central that a currently Benelux based member of the very first Slovenian XI with a middle name staring with an M has reached - shall we say -  a few kilos above his ideal "fighting weight" (and we're not talking about Brad here either)

I thought blimping was the sole prerogative of the wife once married. Now I see that it can work both ways. Full marks! biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Still, El Pres could do with a bit of a slimming regime: the vibrations when facing him in the nets get a little disconcerting smile

p.s. am delighted to hear that it's possible to get freebies in India if you present your internatational cricketing credentials in a favourable manner. I wonder just how far you could push it wink

If ever a fast bowler needed the incentive to steam in and let them rip at the batsmen then today I have it. To cut a long story short, dealing with imbecilic redtape and other general obstacles to things running smoothly have raised my blood temperature so high that the next batsmen who faces me had better be well padded. Fancy some pull shot practice Furness?
not happy

due to the rather grumpy state I'm currently in due to the frustration of dealing with a bunch of R'tards, you know what ball I'd be bowling at you if you in the net - Yorkers all day.

1st game is on this weekend. 1st opportunity to start blathering on about how "I'm gonna score a 50 this year.. I can feel it this year..." etc (Oh what's that? I already did. Yes, but it still seems so unlikely.

Seriously though. It would be good for us to catch up with the boys from Morton for a drink or 2 as they are terrific fun guys and we have a great history between the 2 clubs. They are arriving in Ljubljana on Wednesday and it would be great if we popped in to say hello and have a "Wee Dram" or 2 with them.

I will keep you posted on any "drinking" plans that may arise before the big game.

So the season starts with a huge piss-up?

I'm missing the cricket, and now this. Are you trying to torture me?

Which makes me remember. Who is gonna entertain the Scots with a jolly singalong of "Candle up the ****"?

2nd point. If we didn't have a bit of drinking to look forward to, we'd have to content ourselves with the cricket. No sane Dragon would survive with such a world of disappointment - cue Flashback of Mr Archer screaming "Oohh Nooo" yet again

Had a couple of beers with the Morton crew last night. They were all in fine form, but all wanted to know where Dan and his guitar were. You made quite an impression on that last tour Mr Paichukka

Yeah, saw your call last night Pres. Was having dinner though and phone on silent. Still have this blasted cold though. Perhaps some single malt could have gone down well... biggrin

Booger. Ah well, pass on my very best regards to the Morton lads. You can tell them I am working hard on my pastry skills...

Plaster off btw. Not quite in dancing form yet though, but I expect to be fit for a bit of cricket later in the year.

Morton CC all out 58 - Eve 4 overs 4 wickets for 3 runs
Howland 2 wickets for 4
brilliant bowling by Rok and Gregor Bohinc. Great keeping by Dave Farrell, we scored the runs easily Gregor Bohinc 20 not out. Arses sent back to Scotland on Silver Platter. Good luck tomorrow Mezica

Photos and scores should appear when I get back from my Sunday walk.

yes, great photo if a little blurred. I like it even more as only 6 seconds before this "shot", I said to him "Lala, take your time mate. No need to get out or try for big shots at this stage of the innings". All too typically for LJCC though, such comments are nearly always followed by "swoosh.... clunk...."biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

There should be one of those tabloid black rectangles over the eyes... get your photoshop going, and we could soon have a rogues' gallery on the website. I think El Pres has a photo from Vienna he would want included...

For anyone who played agaisnt Munich or for any one who's interested I've just uploaded some pictures and a quick match report here .   I normally try and get these up on the Monday after the game, but I was too slow and then went and got drunk with El Treas for the rest of the week, but here it is anyway. Warning may contain  poor shot selection.

Spoke to Borut last night. He told me that the scorecards were nearly ready to be done here, but they had a few inaccuracies that he was trying to tidy up. I'll do my best to get them up soon.

Yesterday's match vs HCC Zami was a little one-sided as far as results go. They got about 290 off 35 overs - we got 104 in reply. Still we can remember this game for loads of dropped catches and people getting injured everywhere. I'll put the scores and some pictures up on Monday morning (after we play them again today)

we couldn't really manage either of those. Still our Slovenes all bowled really well which was great to see. I haven't managed to get the scores and pix up yet, but have a look on Tuesday. Or for a sneak preview wander on over to Facebook and become a fan of Ljubljana Cricket Club. Jasa has done a good job there, hopefully we'll find a player or 2 out there in internet land through it.

Scores and pictures from the weekends matches are up now.

Saturday scoreboard here
Sunday scoreboard here

Pictures of both days here

Sorry about the delay, but the double headers take twice as long and are impossible to prepare over the weekend

Anyhow enjoy - there are quite a few more pics that will probably appear in either the forum (Caption this photo / Great Cricket Pics threads) or in the new Facebook group Ljubljana Cricket Club  (here)
 * i think you'll need to sign up if you aren't already a Facebook user

Nice photo of El Tres carving down throat of point. Catch it on the splice by any chance?

Also good to see the tail wagging on Sunday.

But it all bodes well for the future of Slovenian cricket. Great stuff.

Having flicked the previous ball well over cow corner with a deft on-drive, I then proceeded to totally spaz a short hop to that expectant man at point. I hit it rather well to be fair. In fact so well that he didn't need to move.... biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

Instances like this is I suppose why I love the game. Also why I hate it at times smile.gif
