To answer the original question, all I know at the moment is that you can watch cricket on the big screen at the John Bull pub nearly the Intercontinental Hotel. Judging by the number of expat English-speakers who live here though, I'm sure there is a thriving cricket scene. And a baseball one, and a lacrosse one. And probably Aussie Rules...
Terrific find Muppet. We are very much looking forward to our big match on Saturday versus the nascent Hungarian team. They really have done a remarkable job with cricket in a very short time indeed and should it continue at this rate one fears they will be very strong indeed in no time at all.
Wow, solid performance by Oman M. Can't disagree with carrying your bat, top-scoring and then taking 4/13 in 7 overs.
Quite tragic though that the Hungarians conceded almost as many wides as they scored runs. Didn't you feel a bit guilty about taking candy from that baby?
Greetings from Budapest! I was on the team from Hungary that got so ignominously thrashed by your lot recently - but had a great time nonetheless :) Just noticed you have a forum and thought I'd join - anyone wishing to do so on our forum in Hungary go to the site at www.hungary4cricket.com. Things are really picking up here, we hope to even have the magic 10 teams together for next season. And of course we hope also to play host to a return match from Slovenia/Ljubljana some time next year. I play for Dunabogdany CC, and so I'd be glad also to help arrange a match against any team from Slovenia wishing to also play a club side during their visit. We have surroundings that don't quite match Valburga - but still pretty! And we are definitely the best drinkers in the Hungarian cricket league... Who is Muppet by the way? If he lives in Budapest, do I know him/her? Feel free to use my e-mail Muppet in case you fancy a beer and a chat :) Cheers now Steve A from Budapest
Nice to have you with us. As you may have noticed things have been a bit quiet round here lately, but we'll be kicking back into action early in the New Year.
Did you ever meet up with our Muppet? I'm sure he won't want to ruin his infinity average* by actually playing cricket again. I have also been told that he prefers to field the ball without using any part of his hands!
(* 0 not out scored for Ljubljana CC in Vienna in his one innings.)
cheers Brad (that is you, isn't it...) still in the dark as to who Muppet is - but he doesn;t have to play for us, he's welcome to just help with the drinking :) anyway happy new year and all the best! let's talk soon about putative fixtures cheers now Steve "Allan Lamb moustache" Anthony (actually I shaved it but will grow it back well in time for next cricket season!)
Hi there! Greetings again from Budapest! I see your season has begun - we (Dunabogdany CC vs. the brand new all-Hungarian Danubian Kangaroos team) had our first friendly match of the season today, April 20. Any further thoughts about visiting Hungary this summer? We could arrange a two-match weekend, say play our best "international" side on the Saturday and then Dunabogdany on the Sunday. Any ideas about possible dates - Brad, Rob, etc? cheers Steve Anthony, Budapest

Hello again Steve.
The Austrian league (due to a bit of an internal crisis) hasn't released any fixtures yet. We expect them this week. It's playing havoc with our plans for other fixtures actually, I'm still really up for it, by the way. How was your match?
Hey Brad , nice to hear from you! We had a lovely day in Dunabogdany today (about 25km north of Budapest). Sunny, warm and not a cloud in the sky - only some pretty big puddles in the outfield due to rain previous two days, almost making us invent the new game of Water Cricket... but it wasn;t too bad really. Dunabogdany (my team) came out winners in our friendly against the Danubian Kangaroos, which is a new team this season made up 100% of Hungarians. We hope to have a league of possibly ten teams this year, but we'll see... always a problem losing people from the previous year, expats move on... but we're getting lots of new people too. Anyway, hope you have a better idea of your fixtures soon, when you do please contact me and Andy Grieve (our own El Presidente) about possibel dates. I've asked Andy to keep me in the loop and vice versa - I'd be particualrly happy to help out with the "entertainment" side of your trip if you guys come over (meaning drinking beer mainly I guess :0) - plus there is a guy on our team who runs a hostel in downtown Budapest that might be a good cheap place for you all to stay (unless you want to stay in 5-sar hotels)... I can put you in touch when the time comes. Anyway, cheers for now Steve A
