The Chappell brothers Ian and Greg (amongst others) have raised the possibilty of a score of 500 being reached during the world cup. Small grounds, strong teams vs inexperienced "minnows" could lead to some very one-sided games, but does anyone think we'll see the current record of 443 scored by Sri Lanka vs The Netherlands beaten.
Or seeing as Bermuda could only score 45 in a warm up against England, will we see a new record lowest score.
Personally, I think the highest score may just be eclipsed in this tournament, but 500 would be fairly exceptional.
Sri Lanka v Bermuda was surely one of the prime contenders for a record, and SL have just finished their innings on 321/6. This is a strong total, but nowhere near record-breaking.
It's early days, but no team has yet really slaughtered any of their opposition. have they? Maybe if we do see a record broken, it'll be a "highest margin of victory" one rather than a highest total. The Aussies' 256-run walloping of Namibia four years ago is currently the margin to beat.
Meanwhile Jeremy Bray of Ireland may well be on his way to scoring the tournament's second century against Zim, nicely in time for St Patrick's weekend.
Hats off to Herschell Gibbs. Six sixes in an over. Gets to nominate a charity to receive a million greenbacks. Couldn't have done better meself (literally).

And let's not forget Boucher - fastest ever ODI fifty (21 balls!). Good to see another former coloniser getting thrashed by a former colony. I think that's the first time ever it's happened (in cricket) to someone other than England...
Just keeping an eye on India v Bermuda. India are cantering along at 6.9 an over, and the 200 is already up with only one wicket down and more than 20 overs left. 400 is certainly possible, watch this space.
They closed on 413/5, but it could have been even more, as there were about five consecutive overs without a boundary in the middle of the innings. Great to see Sehwag seemingly back in form as well.

I can see India being the first team to break a record score, winning margin etc, and still not qualify. They are going to have be at their peak to beat Sri Lanka, and I think it's safe to say that Bangladesh should beat Bermuda, meaning India out.
Imagine being in charge of marketing a world cup and losing most of your target audience in the preliminary rounds (India and Pakistan) - that would have to hurt.
