A weakened Australia get absolutely slaughtered in the first match for the Chappell-Hadlee trophy. Oz 148 ao NZ 149-0 in about 26 overs.

Anyone find a picture of the Chappell trophy - I could only find this one ...

What is that? It looks like something Tony Hart might have knocked together in a couple of minutes.

That's not a trophy...  this is a trophy Andrew Flintoff and Paul Collingwood hold the CB Series trophy, Australia v England, CB Series, 2nd final, Sydney, February 11, 2007

Fush 'n' chups all round this morning!

Perhaps we should pick this guy then? I've heard he can bowl a bit.

And this sentence shows we have something else in common too

At times, Eve was virtually unplayable

Australia scored a fairly useful 336 for 4 today but couldn't defend it. This means that for the first time in the history of one-day rankings Australia are not top. South Africa are now the no 1 One day side in the world.

Brad Hodge seems to be in form though as he got another 97 not out today.

What about the "Eve lets rip" bit? Surely that has the most striking resemblance to the Eve that I know!

They did well to get that far. Shane Bond was all over their top order, bowling maidens to Phil Jacques, who was clueless.

Being drubbed repeatedly by Poms and Kiwis must be tough for the Aussies to take. Surely it's time for a comment from scottoz99.

Yeah, the typically shrill Sky News Sport (as opposed to the more analytical Sky Sports News ) were talking about the collapse of Australia as a sporting nation, while forgetting to point out that what is practically a second team still got 336-4 and it took the second biggest run chase ever to beat them.

Mind you P. Jacques looks to be one of those "Hick"s that can't quite step up (time will tell), while confirming that as well as struggling to defend low totals Australia struggle to defend scores over 320.

Four defeats in a row though... another couple and there could be a "is this the worst ever" thread up.

Oooh, no time like the present, surely?
Some wag on the BBC 606 cricket forum has even gone as far as questioning whether one-day matches against Australia should now count as full internationals...

Seriously though, I do bet Buchanan is reeeally wishing he hadn't made that ill-advised comment a few weeks ago about the Aussies not being sufficiently "tested". Talk about biting him on the bum.

Seems the Australian team has been reading the Ljubljana cricket club forum (as all good internationla cricketers should) and have taken note of comments from some of the English supporters and "some wag on BBC 606" (where most people should seriously be denied internet access - that place is extremely frightening!) and scored 346 off their 50 overs. Matt Hayden is obviously the most regular visitor as his 181 not out is clearly aimed at proving a point to Messrs Golcar, Luxury, Muppet et al...

Just hope our bowlers can defend it though we've started well getting both openers cheaply.

Bugger. Just finished a class and came and checked the score. Just read this...

30.3 Voges to McMillan, SIX, HOLY CRAP, thats out of the stadium! Superb hitting, its like a baseball home run derby! McMillan dances down and lifts Voges miles over the sight screen....24 sixes in the game and McMillan celebrates his 100 with a fiesty pump of the first....immense innings!

Not every day you read the words HOLY CRAP in a ball by ball description of a cricket match. New Zealand still need 6.3 an over for the last 19 overs, but they are scoring at 7.3. Could go either way.

Even better news is that he's fractured his big toe. Seems he might have been trying too hard to prove forum members wrong.

49.1 Bracken to McCullum, SIX, would you believe it? Bracken you idiot! He bowls a knee-high full toss on the stumps and McCullum slams that superbly over deep fine leg for half a dozen! What a game this is!

That breaks New Zealand's record from the last game as 2nd highest ever successful run chase. What a great match.

Why can't Australia ever win these thrillers? This is getting bad for my nerves.

B*ll*cks

Mmm,and Vettori

Still, it's just a little whitewash - can happen to the best of us.
Though you'd have to feel that most sides in world cricket would fancy their chances of defending 346 if they have the opposition at 41/4.

William Hill still have the Aussies at 3/1 favourites for the CWC though, SA 5/1, SL 13/2, WI & India 8/1, Eng 9/1, Pak and NZ 11/1. I'd call that pretty wide open.

I'm intrigued by the way this thread has stealthily changed to a "Name three relatively famous people from a country that isn't your own" game.
Not too sure of the merits of this one but I always like to join in, so:

James Nesbitt, Lorraine Kelly, Ian Krankie...

Have I got the idea?

That does seem to be the idea. Now who's going to do Belgium?

Er indeed. This is Belgium after all, the country only ever invaded purely for reasons non-Belgium, and now it's the centre of the EU.....

Either one of Europe's worst Paedophiles or Poirot, who was created by a Briton......

Yeah, as long as you don't talk about art, as Beligum has approximately 4 times as many great painters as England.

Anyway, Grand Duke Jean, Marc Girardelli, Greg Davies... your boys etc.

The original "your boys took one hell of a beating" can be heard here - with some "comedy" tacked on the end. What is interesting is that the commentator Bjorge Lillelien has become famously and incorrectly known as Bjorn Minge - brilliant

I should point out my list (Pauline, BGs) was specifically Brizzy-based rather than all of Oz. Hence the shortish nature thereof.

Meanwhile Chelsea win the Carling Cup. Not a bad final till it all kicked off. I was never really into the "role model" argument, but it was poor show by supposed professionals and I have some sympathy for all the people involved in kids' footie in England, cos they will get a few kids refusing to walk and so on.

Petulance and Rage.... what the world needs now...

How do you get the Bee Gees in Brisbane? I thought they were from the Isle of Wight via Manchester?

Originally from Isle of Man (not Wight), then Manchester, but moved to Cribb Island in Brisbane when they were 9 and 12, and it was only there that their career began. (Ain't Wikipedia great?)
Therefore Her Majesty's loyal subjects of Australia must take full responsibility for them and their success.

We'll take them then. (we are quite good at taking other nations stars as "ours" - especially if they are kiwis). The Bee Gees for all the ridicule they receive, have written a load of bloody great tracks over the years.

I'd agree with you up to a point, if "the years" stop around 1982. The problem is you must also take responsibility for everything since then, such as "You Win Again", "For Whom The Bell Tolls", and the atrocious disgrace to music that was 1998's Celine Dion collaboration "Immortality".
I still shudder...

On the question of nabbing Kiwis as your own, I see what you mean about the Finn brothers, but can you please nab Daniel Bedingfield as well? We appear to have nabbed him by mistake, but we really didn't mean to. He's yours. Free.
