Fined for calling selectors clowns

Former Australian Test bastman Greg Blewett has been find $1000 for calling the South Australian selectors "clowns". Is this the most ridiculous sports fine you have heard of before, or is it warranted. God only knows how much I'd get fined for offering my opinion on the English selectors during the Australian tour.

Got any other examples of stupidity in cricket and / or sports officialdom?

And now Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has earned a US$ 2500 for arguing with the coach Bob Woolmer. Apparently after Woolmer had complained that Akhtar wasn't fit for the 2nd test, yet assured everyone he was only to break down on the 2nd day unable to bowl any further. A heated debate was seen between Akhtar and Woolmer and now he has earned this fine.

On what grounds though? That he used to play cricket? Or is he still in the set up?

Football has it's fair share of idiotic fines for "bringing the game into disrepute", though I don't think Joey Barton will be fined for his excellent summary of Frank Lampard (et al) and his teammates World Cup and post-World Cup activities:

"Played ****, here's my book"

 that's "played s h i t" if people are wondering

The Blewett case is because he had been dropped from the South Australian Pura Cup squad and hasn't been recalled despite some reasonable form at club level. He has apparently tried to get a contract at another state but hasn't been able to get any takers. Pity as on his day he is a great batsman to watch. I saw him play this innings in the only international cricket match I have ever been to.

Australia A vs West Indies 1996

(Pretty useful "A" side for Australia on this day it must be said)

Although not cricket-related, thought this was worth including.

In 1991 Eric Cantona took exception to a refereeing decision, and philosophically threw the ball at the referee. He didn't wait for the inevitable red card, but strutted from the pitch to ear-splitting jeers from the crowd.

The disciplinary committee suspended him for four matches. He took great exception when he felt the disciplinary panel were unfairly dealing with him and in an ironic postmodern way, rather than in a spoilt little child way, went up to each member of the panel in turn to hiss 'Idiot!' in his ear. His ban was increased to two months on the spot, and Cantona retired from football immediately. He soon changed his mind and left France for England. The rest is history!!

That's not something you see every day.
